Fashion Show hats #5 and 6

Two more hats! And with only two more days until the show, it's a good thing, too.


The Garden Cloche: pink wool cloche with mohair flowers accented with pearly buttons, cashmere/angora leaves, and vintage bird pins. I absolutely love this one - probably my favorite cloche so far.


Feather Cap: black wool hat with upturned rear brim, a luxuriously long ostrich plume, and a vintage circle pin.

The bridal headpiece is finished, and it's going without the veil because I just don't have time to deal with that tiny clear thread I was using. Eventually I will complete a successful crochet veil, but not before Saturday.

Back to work! I'm going to try a bucket hat our of mohair/acrylic yarn and see if it's substantial enough to hold shape. Hand felting tutorial IS coming soon, I'm just trying to organize my thoughts.

WiP: Fashion Show Hat #4

I've been working all weekend on a bridal-style headpiece for the fashion show, which is now less than a week away. I can't believe it's almost here... Anyway, this piece is a little different from my usual in that it's a headband base instead of a full hat. I covered the band with lacy mohair crochet; a mohair rosette accented with a vintage pin and feather will sit on the side/top. Right now I am working on the veil, which will be quite short, reaching just below the eyes.





I have a few other cloches I will be taking with me to the show, including the one you will see in the next post: a tutorial of how I felt my hats!

Fashion Show Hat #3

I'm on a roll here with these fashion show pieces. Today's accomplishment is a green alpaca/angora beanie worked up in lotus flower and shell motifs, accented with a pink mohair lotus flower pin. It is luxurious!

Fashion Show Hat #2

It's been a productive day so far! This is the second hat I have completed for the fashion show, the Mim: Shell Bucket Hat. I constructed it from white cotton yarn and wove a green ribbon around it for added security and a touch of pretty. Today's weather is gloomy and therefore the light isn't the best for picture taking, but I'm including a photo anyway. Enjoy!

On a slightly seperate note, I've decided that all of my bucket hats will be named "Mim" and all of my berets will be "Millie" after my two grandmothers.

Fashion Show hat #1

Finally finished my first hat for the fashion show in May - the rest are still in the works. I took it to Alabaster's today so they can use it to help promote the show. This is a black Merino wool felted bucket hat with a cream mohair rosette, vintage black and white cameo pin, and vintage black feather.

And Happy Passover to my friends who celebrated it this past week.

Still working, working, working. I tallied it up, and I have at least a dozen hats I need to make in the next few weeks, mostly for the fashion show at Alabaster's ARTS & Tea at the beginning of May. Will try to post pictures as I go along.
